Stoptober is just around the corner: From 1st October, people who want to quit smoking can take up the ‘Stoptober’ challenge. Signing up for ‘Stoptober’ provides smokers with a range of free tools including a stop smoking pack, a 28-day mobile phone app, text support
with daily updates, quitting advice and tips for coping, as well as the encouragement and support from thousands of people quitting together through Stoptober social media channels.
The 2013 campaign saw 11,931 people across Thames Valley signed up to quit smoking through Stoptober. Evidence shows that if a smoker can go 28 days without a cigarette, they are five times more likely to stay permanently smoke-free.
Public Health England is running a campaign throughout September encouraging people to join Stoptober, including TV ads, radio, national press, cinema, digital and social ads and displays in independent pharmacies.
