Prevention and Self-Care Funding for Patient Group Educational Events

The Prevention & Self-Care (P&SC) Board are currently in the position to contribute some funding towards Bracknell and Ascot Clinical Commissioning Group practice Patient Group educational events in Bracknell Forest. These will be funded through the P&SC programme budget for 2016/17.

These events will usually be organised by a practice’s Patient Group (PG) or the practice team in conjunction with the PG. Funding will be provided to cover costs to a maximum of £400 per session.

Patient Group Event example:

As part of Prevention and Self-Care’s outreach work, the Self-Care information stand was staffed at the “Living Well with OsteoArthritis” event organised by the Forest End Surgery Patient Group on Wednesday, 13th April 2016. This event was funded from the Prevention and Self-Care budget. The aim of the evening was to educate people about Osteoarthritis and how to manage the condition. At the event a variety of health professionals talked about all aspects of treatment, pain relief, prevention and addressed the physical and mental health needs of people living with arthritis. The evening was attended by approximately 160 individuals and speakers at the event included:

  • Dr Martin Kittel, Clinical Lead for Prevention and Self-Care
  • Dr John Thing, GP specialist in Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Sonia Coleman, Specialist Physiotherapist, Active Solutions
  • Leena & Kishore Sankla, Falls Free 4 Life
  • Alison Salvadori & Judith Chapman, Talking Therapies

In addition to these speakers, the attendees were invited to visit information stands situated in the main hall hosted by local organisations including:

  • Bracknell Forest Council
  • Bracknell and Ascot Clinical Commissioning Group
